Karachi Vocational Training Centre (KVTC) is a rehabilitation center for Intellectually Challenged (IC) persons, including children, teens, & adults. Since its establishment in 1991, KVTC has proved with unparalleled success that intellectually challenged people can learn trade, hold jobs, earn livelihoods and live independently.

KVTC focuses on Intellectual challenged people ranging from Learning Difficulties or LD (Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, ADHD etc.) to Mental Retardation or MR (IQ of 70 or below) in Karachi although some of our trainees have multiple disabilities i.e. both mental & physical. Additionally, there are 1200 patients in Gilgilt-Baltistan Province & adjoining areas under KVTC’s treatment, while over 2000 are being cared for by 5 General Physicians on our panel, whom we are regularly training & educating since the program began in 1993.

Currently, we have 142 trainees enrolled at the center, and 20 in home-based programs. Our trainees & staff come from all over Karachi, including areas where there’s limited public transport available. Each trainee benefits from our services equally regardless of whether the parents/guardians are able to contribute towards the cost of their rehabilitation.

Our Vision

Our goal is the social integration of people with intellectually challenges into the mainstream of Pakistani society

Our Mission

We believe that intellectually challenged people can continually develop, learn new skills, and become useful, contributing members of society

A Helping Hand.

Our Founder

Born on 29 February 1944, Dr.Inam ur Rahman Khan led a distinguished career as one of the most respected & notable psychiatrists of his time in Pakistan. After graduating from his beloved alma mater, Liaquat Medical College, he pursued his higher studies in England and practiced there for over 14 years.

Returning to Pakistan, after humble beginnings, he served as Head of the Department of Psychiatry at the K.V.S.I.T.E. Hospital (Govt of Sindh) for over 20 years and in 1991, established his legacy project, the Karachi Vocational Training Centre for the Intellectually Challenged, a unique source of empowerment for disabled people.

It is said that people may forget what you said, people may forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel. Dr.Inam complemented his dynamic personality with a great sense of humor that won him friends and well-wishers from all walks of life, and could bring a smile to your face in the worst of situations. Dr.Inam left us on 27 September 2011, leaving behind his friends that will always cherish the good times he spent with them & for the bad times during which he stood by them unflinchingly, and family members who will always remember him as a caring husband, loving father, a pillar of support to lean on, and a great source of inspiration.

Our History

In August 1991, Dr.Inam-ur-Rahman Khan, a consultant psychiatrist with 14 years of work experience in the UK, & his wife, Mrs.Robina Inam, a UK trained Vocational Therapist, established the Karachi Vocational Training Centre for Mentally Handicapped Youth & Adults (KVTC) with the help of other doctors, philanthropists, & care-givers.

KVTC has the most comprehensive & goal-oriented rehabilitation program for people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in Pakistan ensuring gainful employment.

The First Training Hostel for Intellectually Challenged people in Pakistan was inaugurated in 2003 by KVTC. This specially designed 36 bedded hostel provides more than just comfortable lodgings for our trainees.

At the Al-Rahman Training Hostel, the trainees learn the basic daily-life skills that would help them get along with other people such as their families & friends e.g. personal hygiene, taking care of belongings, cooking etc.
